MISPLACED

Amanda Craig, Bunny, 2009
MISPLACED is a multidisciplinary exhibition featuring work from Alexandre Nunes, Amanda Craig and Rachel Shaw. Each body of work consists of several pieces, linked by recurring subjects and formal devices, all based in some way on the consistency or inconsistency of objects. Alexandre Nunes's transfigural pieces are found objects which he subjects to deliberate change. Spell is a 10,000-page book of drawings housed in an old wood locker; Decay is a series of drawings of discarded industrial objects in varying states of deterioration. Amanda Craig's monochromatic ceramics are delicate replicas of objects (Tuna Sandwich, Hairbrush) associated with her memories. Craig attempts to preserve these memories both through her work and the careful preservation of her work; her pieces are contained in jars and boxes or mounted on shelves and plaques. Rachel Shaw's paintings and installation pieces are composite forms of still life and landscape. Play Set and the Observation Site series depict objects confined to (or confining) an indefinite area, and models of the objects form protracted bases to the work. MISPLACED arrives at a pivotal point between the material and the immaterial, and the result is a dissolution of the line between subject and object, form and formation.

MISPLACED takes place at the VAV Gallery (1395 Rene Levesque O.) November 23 - December 4
Vernissage on Tuesday, November 24, from 7-9, with an artist round table talk from 6-7.

Jerome Nadeau, Composition #22

acidPLANE runs until Friday, November 6 at the VAV Gallery and features the works of Patryk Stasieczek and Jerome Nadeau. Patryk's photos examine the unique interaction between his medium and light. Jerome's photos investigate the medium in a very painterly way, while his accompanying video installation actually seems to physically inspect the images.
